We will be back on Orcas Island on Saturday, September 19 for an evening of youth directed shorts and a throwback screening of BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM (2002).
The three shorts we will screen are:
⛸️SUMMER BEFORE PRAGUE by Leesha Grant (6 min, Canada, 2024) – Leesha is the very first Cree female goalie to be invited to play in the Premier Ice Prospect U15 in Prague. This is a snapshot of her summer training before the big leap.
✈️PASALUBONG by Sophia Uy (5 min, USA, Philippines, 2025) – In an airport mall, two friends who’ve formed a life-changing friendship spend their last day together before they part ways.
✂️THE MISSING PLAYMATE by Ella Fields (4 min, USA, 2023) – “The Sexiest Woman of All Time Ever” has gone missing from a Playboy magazine! After a girl embarks on a journey to find her, she begins to question what it would take to fit the mold.
Join us for an evening of facilitated discussion of these powerful youth made shorts and a reflection on the legacy of BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Let’s end the summer under the stars as we look forward to 2027, which includes the women’s world cup!
